 The History of Portogram Established 1945
.
PORTOGRAM have been producing variable speed players for dance teachers since the early 60’s and have seen many changes in the way teachers have taught their pupils.
We started with our BABYGRAM record players which we produced in several different versions up until 1992.
In 1972 we produced our first variable speed tape recorders imported directly from Japan as there was nothing on the domestic market at the time. Up until recently teachers have used tape but as technology has moved on so have teachers methods had to be adapted.
With the introduction of CD players in the 1980,s we saw a gradual switchover to the new digital format.
Now we have IPod, laptop and USB Devices taking front stage. For some this a daunting prospect but with help from Portogram we hope guide you through this ,for some ,new technology.
IPod has been widely used along with laptops for a little while now but whilst the IPod is small and compact we have had the problem of being able to vary the speed .Some teachers have decided to forgo the variable speed but for most teachers it is an invaluable tool to have.
We have produced systems to incorporate this in our bigger PRO SERIES range.
Now we have a portable system CDSC500 to run alongside the Pro series version which will vary the speed on selected IPod and all type USB devices.
With this in mind we have now decided to get behind the USB device route which has a much more adaptable connection when it comes to which system you can connect it to. With these devices also being much cheaper and widely available you have the choice of the stick version or external hard drive which has a much bigger capacity.
A majority of Portogram’s new models incorporate this format alongside the standard variable speed CD player which will be with us for many years to come yet.
For tape it’s days are severely numbered and for teachers still using them ,we advice getting them copied across to CD which can be done via our TAPE TO PC cassette deck.
Portogram have always to keep up with the new technology available without forgetting the current systems in use. As a consequence our range has very much expanded to take in CD,USB and IPod and computer software for laptop .
Whether it is a simple Portable system to an expanded separates system Portogram will have a product available .
